    Terry O'Neill

    , b. 1938
Terry O’Neill’s candid, photojournalistic portraits have captured some of the most iconic creative and political figures of the 20th century, including Brigitte Bardot, The Beatles, Audrey Hepburn, Nelson Mandela, and Frank Sinatra. His images have graced the covers of Life, Rolling Stone, and Vogue, among many others. Throughout the 1960s and ’70s, O’Neill developed close relationships with many of his subjects, a rapport that shines through in the unguarded, snapshot-like intimacy of his work. “I’m a reportage photographer, and I just like fading into the background,” he explained. “The more discreet you are, the better off you are.”
