Marilyn Minter (American, b. 1948, Shreveport, Louisiana) is a contemporary artist known for her provocative and hyperreal depictions of beauty, glamour, and the female body. Working across painting, photography, and video, Minter explores the intersections of desire, pleasure, and power in contemporary visual culture. Her lush, meticulously detailed images often magnify surfaces—sweat, glitter, makeup, and water droplets—blurring the line between seduction and realism.Minter earned her BFA from the University of Florida and her MFA from Syracuse University. Since the 1970s, her work has challenged conventional representations of women in art and advertising, confronting both the allure and the artifice of beauty. She gained international recognition with her series Green Pink Caviar (2009), a sensual and subversive video installation that examines consumerism and erotic imagery. Her work has been exhibited at major institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Minter lives and works in New York City.
