Inès Longevial

Inès Longevial's artistic journey began in her childhood, where she found inspiration in the works of Picasso, Matisse, and Modigliani. This early passion for drawing, fueled by her family's library, quickly evolved into a love for painting. At just eight years old, she created her first works, exploring her fascination with color. After discovering the works of Paula Modersohn-Becker, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Niki de Saint-Phalle, Longevial pursued her calling by studying applied arts in Toulouse. She graduated with an MFA in 2013, having already established a daily practice of creating art.Self-portraits became her primary focus, a genre she uses to explore her imagination and emotions. Her works often feature dreamlike faces and landscapes that are influenced by the colors and moods of the external world. Longevial is particularly inspired by the subtle changes in light, which she uses to capture specific impressions and feelings.Over time, her portraits have evolved, moving toward a greater purity and a more detailed exploration of skin tones, shadows, and contours. Through these intimate depictions, Longevial reclaims her body and asserts her femininity. Ultimately, her paintings are not just self-portraits; they also reflect her relationship with the world and her identity as an artist.
